Contagious Ward Skit: Introduction: As the title implies, every symptom in this doctor’s office seems to be contagious. A short rehearsal will equip your volunteers to sincerely “ham-it-up”. Set Up: Set your stage to look like a waiting room in a doctor’s office. Chairs are usually set in horse-shoe style around fake plants and tiny tables with magazines. Include a desk or table for a nurse/check-in. Supplies: 6 chairs for in-coming patients, plus a few extra which will remain empty 6 volunteers a pregnant woman costume and a nurse costume. Sceen: Volunteer 1: Enters stage, approaches nurse at desk and says, “I have an appointment to see the doctor.” (Nurse writes name on list and Volunteer 1 sits down.) Volunteer 2: Enters sneezing like crazy, and approaches nurse at desk. He/she says, “I have an appointment,” and then sits down one seat away from Volunteer 1. Gradually Volunteer 1 starts to sneeze and Volunteer 2 sneezes less and less, until only Volunteer 1 is sneezing. (Basically, the first person is going to slowly “catch” all the sicknesses and ailments that walk in the room, and the other people are going to walk out “healed.”) Volunteer 2 notices that he/she isn’t sneezing anymore and exits stage smiling and feeling refreshed. Volunteer 3: Enters the stage coughing uncontrollably and says to the nurse, “I have an appointment,” and then sits down a seat away from Volunteer 1. Gradually Volunteer 1 starts to cough (while still sneezing) and then Volunteer 3 coughs less and less, until only Volunteer 1 is coughing (and sneezing). Volunteer 3 notices that he/she isn’t coughing, stretches, acts very relieved and waves “good-bye” to the nurse as he walks out. Volunteer 4: suffers from uncontrollable itching. Volunteer 5: is a confused but rude belcher. You should be as creative and silly as possible with ailments that will get your audience laughing. The key is to make the ailments easy to notice visually (nervous twitch, hiccups, fainting spells, etc…) Volunteer 6: (This the finale.) She is a pregnant woman. Volunteer 1 still sits in his chair suffering from all of the illnesses that people have passed on to him in the doctor’s office. When he sees the pregnant woman enter he screams and runs from the office moaning, “No, it’s not possible…No!” (Volunteer 1 must time his reaction perfectly, possibly looking away when the pregnant woman first walks in… then look up, scream and leaves!)
