A full box of tissues (in the box)
I’m one of those people who suffer from allergies. Sometimes it gets so bad, I think I’m allergic to anything carbon-based…which is pretty much planet Earth.
On those days, I don’t just go through a few tissues…I go through a few boxes of tissues! I had a day like that just this week, and when I was pulling the four hundred and twelfth tissue from the box on my desk, I noticed something: every time I snatched one out of the box, another one was left poking out ready for my next sneeze. (“Slowly” pull a tissue from the box in your hand demonstrating this fact.)
Moments later, I needed another tissue, so I pulled the next one from the box. Sure enough, yet another Kleenex was waiting for me. (Repeat the process in front of them again.)
It got me to thinking. Those tissues are a lot like God’s forgiveness.
When I’m bombarded by my allergies, I need one tissue after the next. When sin interrupts my relationship with God, I need His forgiveness. Since I face sin a lot, I need a lot of God’s forgiveness. And you now what? Just like I find a new tissue waiting on me every time I pull one out, I always find God ready to forgive me again. (You may want to pull yet another tissue from the box, symbolizing the forgiveness God gives us.)
Of course, you might think, “Well, hey! As long as God will forgive me, I’ll just go on sinning and sinning!” Ummm…I don’t recommend that. First, it breaks God’s heart when we sin. Secondly, our sin always has consequences for us, even when they are not immediately recognizable. And lastly, our sin usually impacts those around us in negative ways. So we should try to avoid sin to the best of our ability.
But, the good news is, when we do sin, each and every time we ask God for His forgiveness, we get it anew…just like these tissues. (Pull one final tissue from the box to illustrate your point.)
