All That Matters
Salvation

Our theme for the evening was “Real Christianity." We introduces the topic of “what it takes to be a real Christian. Then without much explanation, we told them that we composed a test and handed out a long thin sheet of paper (the reason for this shape will become obvious) and a pen/pencil to each member of the group. We explained that there would be a series of questions based on their Bible knowledge. The questions were asked one at a time, pausing to allow them time to write their answer. Answers were to be written one under another down the strip of paper. No answers were discussed during the quiz. They were told to wait until the end before raising any questions. The questions started off fairly "normal" and got more obscure.

Here were our questions:
(some answers in brackets - although they aren't necessary, as you'll see)

  1. Who was the first man? (Adam)

  2. Who was the man who had to climb a tree to see Jesus? (Zaccheus)

  3. What was Jacob's daughter called? (Dinah)

  4. After Jesus fed 5000, how many did he feed next? (4000)

  5. How many verses are in Psalm 119? (176)

  6. Who was Jashobeam? (One of David's soldiers)

  7. How big was the Covenant box (in centimetres)? (110 long x 66 wide x 66 high)

  8. What was Nebuchednezzar's second dream? (a tree)

  9. Name one of the gates of the City of Jerusalem.

  10. Name one of the churches in Revelation?(Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea)

  11. After letting them stew for a while and complain about some (most) of the questions, we announced that there was one final question: Have you ever put your trust in Jesus, asking for forgiveness of your past, and giving him control of your future?

After this final question, we placed a wastepaper basket in the middle of the floor and instructed them to tear off the last answer from the strip of paper. The rest were to be thrown in the wastepaper basket. The "point" was then made, that the only answer that counted was the last one (remember, the theme is "What does it take to be a "real" Christian?"). Being able to answer any, or all, of the others was no guarantee of salvation. We emphasized the point by using John 3:16 "For God so loved the world....."
