Fear
Main Point: God can conquer our fears if we put our trust in Him
Kids Arrive: about 6:30-6:45
- make them feel welcome
- learn names and interests
- give new people a New Person Form
Bring it together: about 7:15pm "Hey, glad to see you all here. Welcome to ????
Introduce new people: give them a blow-pop, skittles, or snickers bar, etc.
Youth Challenge: Choose an upfront game from our “Up-front Games” list (CLICK HERE) Invite two students to volunteer and challenge one another. (Soda Slam, Surgical Glove Blow-up, Joust, or just a burp contest. Be creative!)
Announcements: upcoming activities, events
Discussion Starter Activity or Game: Have different pairs of students come up and fall backwards trusting someone to catch them just like God does when we face our fears with trust
Discussion Starter Video: Use the video clip from “Three Kings” where the captain is trying to encourage a soldier who is torn between his desire to save his friend and the risk of dying. (you'll want to review this clip and use your own discretion)
Small Group Questions: Name your biggest fear when you were a kid? Are you still afraid of that today? Why or why not? What is your biggest fear now? Why? Do you think your fears can keep you from reaching life goals? Describe to us some fears have you already overcome? How did it feel?
(Referring to the video) The captain told the soldier that you don't develop the courage to face your fears, you face your fears to develop courage. The fastest way to get past the things you are afraid of doing, is to do them any way.
(insert personal story of overcoming one of your fears)
Discuss psalm 23
Wrap Up: Tell the story of Jesus walking on water and what happened to Peter when he focused on the storm (pier pressure) instead of focusing on God.
