God's Armor

Understanding the Purposes of God’s Armor

by Andy Matzke

Title-                     Sock’m with the Word!

Information-          This discussion is designed to help students understand what God’s armor is for and how to use it.  Students will see that God’s Armor protects them from, as well as helps them to battle Satan.

Items Needed-          Bible

Sock ‘n’ Bops – These are blow up “boxing gloves” that look like beach balls- available at many Toy stores.  There are a sword and shield Sock ‘n’ Bop set too- these will work even better.  The important thing is to use something where kids can battle without getting hurt!

Opening-               Choose two students or leaders to come to the front of the room.  Give each person a pair (or one) of the Sock ‘n’ Bops. Explain that there are two purposes for the Sock ‘n’ Bops,  1) to attack the other person.  2) to protect yourself.   You may want to give a quick lesson on boxing:  keep elbows in to protect body, gloves up to protect face, chin down . . . and no biting of the other person ears!  Only give the participants a little while to go at it- just enough to illustrate defending one self.

Text-                     Ephesians 6:13  “So us every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up.”

Talk-                     Teach out of Ephesians 6:10-19 about all of God’s armor!

1.     What is the armor used for?

2.     Why is it important for us to use God’s armor?

3.     Why did God Give us armor?
