by Jonathan McKee Not Rated (but as innocent as PG) Starring Tim Conway, Victoria Jackson, Taylor Mason, Thor Ramsey, Bone Hampton, Dan Nainan Jonathan's Rating: Worth Buying I must confess, when the first Thou Shalt Laugh was released, I was a little skeptical about the creation of a Christian comedy night (whether it be a literal seven day creation, or not). Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to be able to enjoy some comedy without profanity and garbage. But let’s just say that in the past, Christians and “film-making” haven’t always mixed well. But I stood corrected, because the first in the series delivered. Call me a Scrooge, but I was skeptical once again upon hearing about Thou Shalt Laugh 2: the Deuce. I figured, “They got it right the first time… it will take a miracle to pull if off again.” Wrong again. “…the Deuce” delivered. Tim Conway hosted the evening… very funny. Then Though Shalt Laugh veterans Thor Ramsey and Taylor Mason came back with new material probably even surpassing their earlier stuff. Dan Nainan and Bone Hampton were new to the scene but provided some hilarious comedy, poking fun at racial and socioeconomic issues. Hilarious! The only disappointment of the evening was Saturday Night Live veteran Victoria Jackson who was “hit and miss.” My wife liked a lot of her stuff, I chuckled a little… my kids were just plain bored during her bit. But don’t throw out the baby with the blonde… overall, the DVD provided a fun evening of family entertainment. I’m a comic fan. My son and I both watch a lot of stand-up and even watch the reality series Last Comic Standing, which supposedly finds the best of up and coming comics. I’ll be completely honest. These Christian comics blew away the Last Comic Standing comics (Victoria Jackson aside). Grab the DVD, pop some popcorn, and enjoy it with your whole family. SHOULD KIDS SEE IT? I let my 10, 12 and 14 year old see it without hesitation. There were a few jokes that were funnier for adults than kids… nothing inappropriate (although a few edgy jokes- nothing even approaching what kids hear from a Shrek movie).
