Parents’ Night Out: You can do this event as a fundraiser, like youth leader Rene did, or, when you’re not in fundraising mode, for free as an act of service to parents in your church and/or community. Mail flyers throughout your church and have the youth hand out flyers to family and friends announcing a group child care night. Have adult youth leaders and youth baby-sit on a set evening for a set amount of time. Create a sign in sheet with names of children, parents, and a cell or contact phone number. Set either a per hour or per child charge or just ask for donations. Set a schedule full of fun activities, including a kids’ movie appropriate for preschoolers. If you have two rooms, you can show a kid/family-friendly movie appropriate for ages 5-12, but one that wouldn’t bore them like the preschool movie might. Since everyone’s standards are different, ask 3-4 parents of young kids in your church what they would feel comfortable with their children watching. You can’t please everyone, but you can be wise. The last time we did this, we watched 13 children (low for us) but we made approx. $350.00. Great for one night’s work. As one of our youth said, "This was much easier then washing cars."
