The Duct Tape Challenge: A Great New Game to Try This Fall


Michael Holt passed this game to me from his old intern Nathan Smith in Columbia SC.

Divide into even teams and have each team select a volunteer- preferably a small, light one. Give each team a roll of duct tape. The object is to tape a team member up on to the wall, using no more than the provided role of tape. The one who stays up the longest is the winner. At Nathan's event, apparently one middle school kid was on the wall for 30 minutes!

Hint: Make sure you use the tape that doesn't leave sticky stuff on the wall or tear off paint (especially in rented or borrowed facilities!) Provide a soft landing for youth as they drop off the wall!

I always love the responses I get to my email newsletters. Here were a few of my favorites from last week:

    G'day from Oz,
    Our youth group regularly plays fireball soccer, and we have had no injuries, but do insist that players wear workboots, not runners, and not have frayed jeans or nylon trackpants on!
    We use diesel, rather than kero, as it burns slowly and for a long time, and soak hessian bags, not paper. We also use those outdoor bbq type fire lanterns to mark the goal positions and boundary lines. Of course, night time is the best time to play, with the ball really looking spectacular as it flames through the air at you!

Ironically this was sent from a guy at "safeweb.com.au" also in Australia. Safe web huh?

    Just a quick note in regards to the 'Fireball Soccer' game. We have played it quite regularly sometimes with a couple of non-serious burns, but we find it more fun to just soak a roll of toilet paper in kerosene and play the game with that. It is much safer and you can actually pick it up and throw it to each other (if you're quick enough). Make sure you don't start any extra fires though.

 What is it with Australia? I quote Quint in Jaws: "He's either very, very smart or very dumb!"

Teen Lingo Page Used for Good! "Who's Your Daddy!"

It's nice to know that my page is being used for good. I received this email last week and reprint it with permission:
    Thank you so much for your site. I had a meeting with my son's Principal, Assistant Principal, and two teachers today because my son made a school project with "Who's your daddy?" on it. School Administration INSISTS it means "who is your sexual partner" and won't believe me that it means "who's the man", "top dog", etc. Now my son as a reputation of being obscene with school teachers and administrators. I am at my wits end. I have printed a copy of your definition from your Teen Lingo Dictionary and intend to take it to the principal Thanks for listening and God bless.

Let's just hope that principal doesn't look up hoochie mama!
