Outreach Event Ideas

Backwards Halloween:
Our congregation donates candy for several weeks - which is then split into about 100 bags. The week before Halloween, our youth group goes into the community, knocks on doors and gives them candy, along with information about our church. (We don't wear costumes.)  You will probably want to give the students a very short "tag line" to memorize and share with the people they greet.  They will be asked, "Why are you doing this?"  The kids can easily say, "We just want to show God's love in a tangible way.  Have a safe Halloween!"

Leads to a great lesson on how people accept a "free" gift - some folks appreciate it, others are a little apprehensive, and others flatly reject it...just like with Jesus.

Also good training for students and leaders in outreach and showing genuine care with no strings attached.
