MORE ABOUT THIS GREAT RESOURCE: Our goal with this handy little e-book is providing a tool to educate you about some of the terms of the day and to provoke discussion using many of these words. Each left-hand page of this book features a current slanguage term and four possible definitions. Only one of these definitions is correct. It's your job-or the job of your small group-to choose the correct meaning. The right-hand page of the book reveals the correct definition, which is the most common use of the word. Many have multiple meanings and might change depending on the context; we simply provide the most common use of the word. Then this same page provides 6 to 10 stimulating questions to get kids talking, laughing, debating, and thinking. Some of these questions can be used to kick off discussions on a variety of subjects, providing you with a relevant verse or two from the Bible for guidance. Others just break the ice in social situations. ![]() Jonathan and Fred have come up with a terrific little book for anyone who cares about youth. Our language is constantly changing. It is advantageous for anyone working with teens to know the vocabulary of the generation we're trying to reach. This book will not only educate you about some of the most popular, current terms of this generation, but also will provide springboards for discussion. This is a fun book. My students and I laughed out loud as we read some of the made up definitions of the words in this book (the book provides a hilarious quiz for each word with choices between authentic and "made up" definitions). The discussion questions around each phrase will cause your students to think and talk. The topical discussion index at the end of the book will help in quickly finding appropriate words with questions for a specific issue. I highly recommend this book. Les Christie Author, Best-Ever Games for Youth Ministry Chair, Youth Ministry Department William Jessup University "You think you know kids? If you take a few weeks off for a vacation or bury yourself in a book or a class, you stand the chance to miss out on a new wave of dialect that can make your linguistic head spin! Its not that the basic needs of kids are changing - they will always need a listening friend and a compassionate presence - but as you get close to them it helps to have some idea of what they're talking about. This e-book is the ticket. Jonathan and Fred have done all who love kids a huge service, and they promise to keep it up to date. Like me, you'll need to check it out regularly, and use it as a resource when a new word comes along. Chap Clark, Ph.D. Author, Hurt: Inside the world of today's teenagers Professor of Youth, Family, and Culture Fuller Theological Seminary "Slang is changing and evolving faster than ever as teens today are constantly wired with things like MySpace, text messaging, and video sites like Youtube. Fred and Jonathan help us keep up with slang in a way that doesn't come off 'cheesy' or like we're trying too hard. What's a Fo' Sheezy is a great way to get kids to open up and not feel like you're invading their space." Urban D (Tommy Kyllonen) Author/Speaker In Youth Ministry it is so imperative to continue to decipher the thoughts and language of the ever-changing youth culture. Fred & Jonathan have given us a "Rosetta's stone" that uses both humor and relevance to equip us to connect and communicate with students. What's a Fo' Sheezy is an innovative resource that will get teens talking. Chris Hill President, Chris Hill Ministries International I want to give mad props to Fred and Jonathan on their new book, "What's a Fo' Sheezy?" This book is more than just a guide to understanding youth "slanguage" - it is a guide to understanding youth culture. And even though "slanguage" changes from day to day, the topics addressed in this handy little e-book are sure to incite deep discussion for years to come. Ryan Jones Author, Internet Slang Dictionary President of NoSlang.com "Wow! I thought I knew all the words..."Whats a Fo' Sheezy?" sure educated me.'" Josh D. McDowell Author/Speaker "It's difficult to communicate with kids - understanding what they're saying and getting them to hear what you have to say - if you don't understand their language. Thank you Fred and Jonathan for helping us keep the lines of communication open!" Walt Mueller Author, Engaging the Soul of Youth Culture: Bridging Teen Worldviews and Christian Truth President, Center for Parent/Youth Understanding "Fred and Jonathan understand that youth culture is both shaping as well as being shaped by hip-hop, multi-ethnic, and urban sub-cultures. These sub-cultures carry values, fashion, and language. This is a great resource in helping youth workers especially connect to what this generation is saying in order to go deeper to what they're thinking and feeling. Thanks brothers for both a fun and needed addition to my youth ministry library." Efrem Smith Author, Raising Up Young Heroes and The Hip Hop Church (with Phil Jackson). "What's a Fo' Sheezy? is an easy to use, fun, and effective tool for understanding the language of today's youth culture. More than that, it is a year supply of relevant 'discussion starting' questions to get kids talking. Jonathan and Fred do an amazing job at presenting a crash course on 'Slanguage' and giving youth leaders an opportunity to connect with their students on a whole new level." Greg Stier Author, Dare 2 Share: A Field Guide to Sharing Your Faith President and Founder of Dare 2 Share Ministries "For the youth worker who loves to engage kids in meaningful and fun discussions... this is a great place to start. I really believe this ebook is set for small group discussions and will complement you and your staff’s ability to reach and engage kids."
